I have often heard statements like: “There is so much anti-Christian persecution in Indonesia, isn’t it foolish for you to go there?”
And I would reply: “There are 17,000 islands in Indonesia – so I have no problem finding one where it is peaceful!” The truth is that I will probably have no problem finding 16,999 other Indonesian islands which are peaceful!
A little understanding of geography will help us to realize that Indonesia is a very large country (the 4th most populated in the world) that stretches from the Indian Ocean to the north of Australia (the Indonesian province of Papua), so that religious unrest in one part of the country will hardly be felt in most other parts of the country. In fact, we who watch CNN are more likely to know of the trouble in Indonesia, than most Indonesians.
If statements like these come from “ordinary” Christians, then it is understandable. But often these statements come from people who are involved in missions. Satan has indeed managed to take advantage of our ignorance and scare us from reaching 240 million wonderful peaceful Indonesians
On other occasions, I have heard statements like “You better avoid China now, it’s flooding badly. I saw it on news last night!” If indeed China is flooding badly, then it’s time to build another Ark because China is almost 10,000,000 square kilometres!
A little understanding of geography will help us to understand that even if one entire city of over a million people in China is covered with flood waters, there are another 100 cities with a few hundred million people in China who are not affected!
Businessmen, without God, have for centuries gone to the remotest, inhospitable places looking for “gold” but missionaries have for the flimsiest reasons avoided “eternal riches”!
Dear Family and Friends,
As always, time goes by so quick. The spring semester flew by and now I am in the process of moving to a new city. After the whirlwind of activities over the last few months, I finally have a few minutes to catch my breath before summer camp starts so I thought I’d take a moment to update you on how He is working… Read More....
School has begun! I started teaching on Monday of this week. I am teaching in the English department of my school and am very excited to be working with my students. I have loved all my students from year one to now but because these kids are English majors their English is a little better so we can discuss more in-depth topics and get to know each other a little… Read More....
Over the last week I was privileged to take a couple trips to other places of interest in the northeast. As we drove across the land to our destination, I looked out upon miles and miles of well-manicured corn rows. No land is wasted; every square inch is used to grow something that is useful for living; very little if any land is left to grow just plain grass. Everything… Read More....
