The calamity at home (8)

This entry is Part 8 of 8 in the series Hindrances To Missions

Another excuse for not responding to the call of God goes like this, “But so many at home are not saved.”

It is true that there are many needs at home in fact I am told of the 300 million Americans only 28 million would be classified as evangelical believers that means there are 272 million Americans that still need to be reached with the gospel. There are 170 million Americans that are un-churched and 30 million of those are hard-core pagans that are anti-Christian. All though the needs of the United States are great the needs of the world are greater.

In the United States there is one full-time evangelical worker for every 200 hundred people. In India there is one full-time worker for every 200, 000 people. In Algeria, Northern Africa there is one full-time worker for every 2 million people. In Asia there is one full-time worker for every 5.4 million people. In fact in the world 1 out of 2 people cannot hear the gospel because there is no one to tell them.

We cannot neglect the call to world-wide missions because the needs at home are great.

To say, “We must first reach our country” before moving out to the mission field is to condemn ¾ of the world to an eternal hell and it is also to flatly disobey God’s great commission “to make disciples of all nations.”

Do not let the needs at home hinder you from answering God’s call to world-wide missions.

Positioning to live within a community – Tim is a tentmaker. For prudent reasons, we cannot divulge his real name or citizenship. He did not go to another country but had to make a cross cultural leap within his own country.

Tim has had a growing burden for the majority people group in his country. In this country, it is against the law for this mainstream people group to… Read More....

A few weeks ago, a co-worker of mine who is married to a Korean Christian worker told me something interesting. She said “Korean missionaries unite around the Gospel but we bring our differences to the mission field and fight over them!”

Koreans are basically a strong militant race. They do not shun a fight. The Korean Christian population is also clearly divided into conservative Presbyterians and exuberant Charismatics. In… Read More.... | 1 Comment

Going back to the Philippines for winter break is something I truly looked forward to. After a not so normal Christmas and New Year/birthday celebration in China, I was more than ready to hibernate and enjoy the sun in my home country alone. But as usual, plans change every minute. As Hudson Taylor said, “ Man proposes, God disposes.” Being at the center of His will though is still the… Read More.... | 1 Comment
