The best way to get rid of a lie is to replace it with a truth. Therefore, the best way to get rid of prejudice against a race or culture is to find out the truth. I realized that Cantonese women were not immoral when I was old enough to meet some of them and find When I was a little kid, my domestic helper told me that Chinese ladies from Canton (China) were immoral women. In fact, this lovely, kind old lady who had herself come from a neighbouring district to Canton, called them “dirty women.” For a good part of my youth, I harboured this prejudice against them. Thankfully, Last year two young Filipinas from the central part of the Philippines felt led to go and help a depressed community of Filipino migrants who had fled the fighting in the southern part of the Philippines to cross the seas to Malaysia. Most of these migrants are Filipino Muslims. These two ladies lived all their lives After the recent Jakarta bombing incident, emotions run high against Muslims, though it is obvious that this incident is committed by a tiny minority of fanatical, misguided Muslims. Christians too are guilty of harbouring these unfair prejudices against Muslims. And I am certain that Satan is stirring up these feelings of prejudice and hatred – and After the recent Jakarta bombing, I am afraid that some of us will harbour resentful thoughts of Muslims. After such events I too used to think that they were unreasonable, hateful and therefore hopeless! A few years ago, God convicted me that He “so loved the world” and that Christ died for them too! |
