Philippines SMCI evangelistic campaign

This entry is Part 1 of 7 in the series Philippines 2009 Campus Evangelism

Yesterday Pastor Mike Redick left with a dozen Singaporeans for the Philippines for the yearly Student Movement for Christ, International (SMCI) Evangelistic Campaign. They will be joined by about a hundred Filipino SMCI campus-workers and volunteers and a few Americans Christians. This yearly campaign is the highlight of SMCI”s missions effort. The campaign lasts 5 weeks and aims to share the Gospel with 40,000 people in 5 different islands in the central part (the Visayas) of the Philippines.

Their usual modus operandi is to do classroom evangelism on the campuses in the daytime and public town-plaza evangelistic services at night in different towns.

SMCI’s typical classroom evangelism is done by first getting permission from the college authorities to allow them to present the Gospel for about 20 minutes in each class. After the Gospel is presented, an invitation is given to those who desire to receive Jesus Christ as the Saviour. Then the names of these are taken down for future follow up.

SMCI’s typical town-plaza evangelism is done by first getting permission from the town authorities to hold a public meeting in the town-square. After permission is obtained, the team-members distribute tracts in the town and set up the equipment for the service. A typical service begins with singing and testimonies. Pastor Mike (or one of the young preachers that he is training) then preaches the Gospel. After the preaching, those who want to trust the Lord are invited to come forward. These people are then personally followed up by trained counsellors.

Besides reaching thousands of people with the Gospel, these campaigns are also part of SMCI’s training program – to train evangelists, workers, counsellors, etc.

Please pray for protection for the team, for Holy Spirit enabling, for unity, for the salvation of thousands and for God’s glory to be lifted up! Pray that Satan and his agents will be bound!

Please pray particularly for Pt Mike as he leads the team. Remember them daily for the next 5 weeks.

We will keep you updated on the progress of this wonderful missions effort on Asia’s campuses. View photos of past evangelism campaigns (click on the thumbnail(s) to view photos):

Positioning to live within a community – Tim is a tentmaker. For prudent reasons, we cannot divulge his real name or citizenship. He did not go to another country but had to make a cross cultural leap within his own country.

Tim has had a growing burden for the majority people group in his country. In this country, it is against the law for this mainstream people group to… Read More....

A few weeks ago, a co-worker of mine who is married to a Korean Christian worker told me something interesting. She said “Korean missionaries unite around the Gospel but we bring our differences to the mission field and fight over them!”

Koreans are basically a strong militant race. They do not shun a fight. The Korean Christian population is also clearly divided into conservative Presbyterians and exuberant Charismatics. In… Read More.... | 1 Comment

Going back to the Philippines for winter break is something I truly looked forward to. After a not so normal Christmas and New Year/birthday celebration in China, I was more than ready to hibernate and enjoy the sun in my home country alone. But as usual, plans change every minute. As Hudson Taylor said, “ Man proposes, God disposes.” Being at the center of His will though is still the… Read More.... | 1 Comment

  • Hello,

You have a great post here, but most of all you have a great work for the glory of God. I am on the process of making my research as a student of Master in Christian Leadership (graduate school). The title of my research paper is “The Effective Way of Evangelizing the Filipino Youths of Today’s Generation”.

Can I ask a favor from you? Can I use your article here for my research? And if you have some statistics and data, that would be a great, great help to me. Hope to hear you soon. God bless your mission!
