God did something miraculous – He solved the biggest problem I had and opened the door for me to go on my first trip to the Philippines in 1999!
Problem Number 2 – would PC accept me as the 4th member of the team? It had been between this persistent friend and me up till this time, and I had no idea what he thought.
I called PC as soon as I could, and it wasn’t as bad as facing the boss at the office, that was for sure. PC immediately started to talk about all the places and people we would visit, and I knew none of them, and never heard of any of those places before, whether it was a big city, or up on a mountain, or some remote jungle, or wherever!
Problem number 3 – confirming my flight. I had to call the travel agent next, and again, God kept the door wide opened. The flight dates were confirmed quickly and I got my air ticket in due time.
Problem number 4 – PC and team were flying to Manila on 8th Sept. I could not go that day… I had to fly there alone on the 10th. In Sept 1999, our company’s Y2K contingency planning included testing and making sure that our computers did not go mad on suspicious dates like 09/09/1999 i.e. 9th Sept. I must be in the office not only on the 9th, but to report for work at 5am on the 10th Sept to make sure all was well before we opened for business!
It was a hectic day to be sure – wake up at an unearthly hour, show up at the office by 5am, work feverishly for the next couple of hours, then say bye-bye to my supportive boss and colleagues, catch a cab home at 7am, pick up my luggage and be at the airport for the 9 am flight to Manila!
More problems when I reached Manila – the city was flooded!
The shock of everything is now starting to sink in and the dust is starting to settle some.
The ultrasound specialist, after much trying, was finally able to see some of our unborn baby’s face and mouth and confirmed the cleft lip which is on the right side. She also said that she saw a gap in the hard palate which is the front of the mouth. It is… Read More....
There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....
A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
