    God provides for His missionaries

This entry is Part 1 of 6 in the series God's Provisions

One of my responsibilities is to disburse the missions budgets to our missionaries overseas every month. I have learnt that it’s not my business to watch the bottomline constantly, or worry about whether there would be funds for the next month to send out.

A few years ago, I had the unusual situation of finding nearly nothing in the mission fund account to remit overseas. Since I used to go to the remittance center on Sunday afternoons to send the funds, I didn’t worry too much about it because surely the collections from the church members would be sufficient to cover the remittances I had to make, which amounted to about S$9,000.

Well, after the service, I took a look at the collection and to my surprise, the funds designated for missions were hardly enough to cover even a quarter of the S$9,000!! Oh my, what happened? Where did all the faithful missions supporters go to? Were they on holiday?? Feeling rather disappointed, I returned home without sending any funds, and wondered what to say to our workers in the Philippines who were expecting their budgets for the month. Finally, I emailed to the missionaries concerned,

“…um, I think you have to fast and pray for this week.”

Fast and pray. Yup, especially if you had no money to buy rice for the table! When Monday arrived, I headed off for work at the big banking corporation I used to be employed in. At lunchtime, I received an SMS text message from the church administrator which went something like this,

“Deb please give me mission funds account number. Someone passed me a cheque by mistake. Supposed to give to you for missions.”

I quickly SMSed back to ask what was the cheque amount.

All right, it wasn’t $9,000.00. If I recalled correctly, it was around $7,400.00, but remember the Sunday collection was about a quarter of $9,000.00, thus the entire sum was more than what was needed! Our missionaries need not fast too many days!

    Dear Family and Friends,

As always, time goes by so quick. The spring semester flew by and now I am in the process of moving to a new city. After the whirlwind of activities over the last few months, I finally have a few minutes to catch my breath before summer camp starts so I thought I’d take a moment to update you on how He is working… Read More....

School has begun! I started teaching on Monday of this week. I am teaching in the English department of my school and am very excited to be working with my students. I have loved all my students from year one to now but because these kids are English majors their English is a little better so we can discuss more in-depth topics and get to know each other a little… Read More....

Over the last week I was privileged to take a couple trips to other places of interest in the northeast. As we drove across the land to our destination, I looked out upon miles and miles of well-manicured corn rows. No land is wasted; every square inch is used to grow something that is useful for living; very little if any land is left to grow just plain grass. Everything… Read More....
