Do you have wrong thoughts about Muslims?

This entry is Part 1 of 5 in the series Christian Prejudice

After the recent Jakarta bombing, I am afraid that some of us will harbour resentful thoughts of Muslims. After such events I too used to think that they were unreasonable, hateful and therefore hopeless!

A few years ago, God convicted me that He “so loved the world” and that Christ died for them too! Since then I have made special efforts to reach out to them with God’s love and have found to my surprise that they were really no different from everyone else.

In fact, I’ve found them to be generally more hospitable than people of most other religions – even when they know that I am a Christian. To be fair, most of my experiences are confined to Muslims in South-east Asian countries. And I have since learned that Islam was spread to S-E Asia via Muslim traders from India and the Middle-east. In other words, Islam was spread by peaceful men, through peaceful means – by men whose main “weapon” were their good testimonies.

In the past few years I, as a Christian worker, have been welcomed into homes of people whom I never imagined would allow me into their homes. They not only welcome me but are also open to things of God. In fact, it is easier to talk to them of such things than to most any other group of people!

I’ve found out that there are no “closed” countries where God’s love cannot penetrate. But I’ve also discovered that there are too many closed minds among Christians, who believe Satan’s lie that they are hopeless.

And worse, I’m afraid that there are too many closed hearts among Christians, not Muslims!

There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....

A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
