Church planting in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and other Asian cities

This entry is Part 4 of 4 in the series Church Planting In Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is a prosperous bustling city. Workers from many other less prosperous Asian countries flock to KL to look for work. Some come legally, many come illegally. Some come with job-agents and jobs waiting for them, many come looking for any job.

On Sunday, these foreigners all gather in the heart of KL, around the bus terminals. Those with jobs come to shop and send money home to their families. Those without jobs come to meet their fellow-countrymen who might help them with some money or some useful tips and connections to get a job.

Though there are thousands of them, they are “invisible” to the locals. Most Malaysians do not even know that there are thousands of foreigners gathered each week in the heart of their capital. And even if they knew they were there, they usually didn’t care – so long as they did not make a nuisance of themselves and inconvenience them. Even the Christians that drive by each Sunday on their way to church, go right by them as if they didn’t exist.

This situation is similar in other Asian cities, eg. Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipeh, Seoul. Even the big cities in poorer countries have large domestic migrant populations coming to look for work.

In these Last Days, when “many shall run to and fro” (Daniel 12:4), large migrant groups will gather in the cities for work – and hope!

Missionaries in Asia must prepare to reach these millions, who are “white already to harvest” (John 4:35). Churches must be planted in the cities of Asia!

There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....

A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
