Christian prejudice against people of other races and cultures (2)

This entry is Part 5 of 5 in the series Christian Prejudice

The best way to get rid of a lie is to replace it with a truth. Therefore, the best way to get rid of prejudice against a race or culture is to find out the truth.

I realized that Cantonese women were not immoral when I was old enough to meet some of them and find out that they were as normal as the other Chinese women. Sure, there are some immoral Cantonese women but there were thousands of others who were morally better than me!

In the past when knowledge of other races and cultures was hard to obtain and when travel was difficult and expensive, it was difficult to verify whether a statement was true or just racial prejudice. So most people had to rely on hearsay – and sad to say, most hearsay about other races tends to be racially slanted! This includes stories from some missionaries too!

Today, when knowledge of other races and cultures is so abundant on travel-shows, magazines and Google and when travel is easy and inexpensive, we cannot claim ignorance as an excuse anymore. Today, ignorance is a choice not a reason.

May the truth set us free – free to love others and share God’s love with other races and cultures!

There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....

A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
