There are some missionaries who cannot ‘advertise’ their real identify that they are God’s servants, because they are working in restricted access nations (RANs). So, they do not compromise their security by taking photos, or emailing sensitive reports to the home church. A few weeks ago, the small group which I am a part of How many times have we heard that? I can’t tell you how many times I have! Someone will visit another work and perhaps they see that workers or converts are being paid or supported. Maybe they see that the impoverished unbelievers only seem to come if they can get something like food or money or Whenever we think of effective missionaries to Asia or other undeveloped countries, we often think of Christian doctors. Many young Christians who want to serve their Lord have studied to be doctors so that they can be effective. They believe that as doctors they can enter restricted-access nations (RAN’s). And they believe that as doctors I was reading the online journal of one of our brethren who was with the evangelistic team recently for a week, to shoot videos and produce a short film of the campus evangelism campaign. Prior to this trip, he had no background of the missions work in the Philippines at all, but after a week I’ve been asked by Western mission boards help their missionaries “navigate” their way in Asian airports. They are concerned that their missionaries will not be able to find their way in airports in exotic lands like Beijing, China. I guess, they were expecting all the signs to be in strange Chinese characters! Even some Asian missionaries Last night I got a call from a friend in the US telling me that his brother, who was supposed to speak at some mission conferences in Singapore, was unable to board the plane because his passport’s validity was less than 6 months! He asked me if there was something that I could do to I have often heard statements like: “There is so much anti-Christian persecution in Indonesia, isn’t it foolish for you to go there?” And I would reply: “There are 17,000 islands in Indonesia – so I have no problem finding one where it is peaceful!” The truth is that I will probably have no problem finding 16,999 |
