 Positioning to live within a community – Tim is a tentmaker. For prudent reasons, we cannot divulge his real name or citizenship. He did not go to another country but had to make a cross cultural leap within his own country. Tim has had a growing burden for the majority people group in his country. In This was true of the richest man in the ancient world. Regarding worry and riches Solomon said; “The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep” (Ecclesiastes 5:12). In other words the more we have, the more we When J Oswald Sanders was General Director of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, he and his wife Edith experienced fatigue. In 1964, both of them faced a period of increased difficulty. For ten years, Oswald Sanders had been driving himself hard, and Edith had tried to keep pace. Both experienced physical mental and emotional strain. Oswald Sanders When Dawson Trotman finally recognised he was tired, he was impatient with the fact. He noticed he could not face some of his daily work or go through his mail. The aversion seemed temporary yet deep down was a gnawing realisation he would have to relinguish persona control of some things and delegate them. What taxed him The scripture warns of that very truth with these word, “When goods increase, they increase who eat them; so what profit have the owners except to see them with their eyes?” (Ecclesiastes 5:11). A recent study showed that households with incomes under $10,000 a year gave 5.5% of their income to charities, whereas those earning I was in Sumatra recently visiting Christian ministries in the southern part of this large Indonesian island. Though the population of Sumatra is largely conservative Muslim there are pockets of effective Christian witness – especially through the good work of Christian-run schools. During the course of my visit, I met a very interesting Indonesian Christian. Insensitivity to cultural ways can have serious repercussions. Many years ago a non-Asian missionary had a leadership role in an Asian ministry. The missionary came from a culture that uses confrontational strategies to deal with interpersonal problems. People would speak out as a means of resolving difficulties. The missionary was therefore dissatisfied with the non-confrontational approach Without a doubt the richest man of the ancient world was Israel’s King Solomon. He had everything that money could buy and then some. He controlled large portions of the Middle East, built some of the ancient wonders of the world and he is the only man I know of that could support a family |
