    Catching souls for the Lord

This entry is Part 2 of 2 in the series Campus Personal Evangelism
    Table Of Contents:

A  typical college campus in the Philippines could have anywhere from a couple of hundred students to over 10,000 students.

There are many wide open spaces as well as nooks and crannies for the kids to gather in between classes.

One thing I’ve noted in my visits to various campuses – the students are basically shy and would not make the first move to talk to visitors.

However, they are also curious about us, especially in the small-town campuses. What are a bunch of odd-looking foreigners doing in their school! And they are often friendly when we approach them to initiate the conversation, beginning with a tract.

The missionaries and team members often do not stop at simply distributing tracts – they seize every opportunity to sit down with the small group, and introduce themselves.

Once the ice is broken, the team, especially the foreigners such as Singaporeans and the Americans, would be able to launch into the good news of the gospel. They would have the full attention of the listeners, and sometimes it did not stay that way – other passing students may notice the little group, and became curious about what that foreigner was talking about, and joined in!

Small groups such as these are very effective. The classroom evangelism is usually limited to 20 minutes, unless the teacher is very co-operative. Outside the classrooms, there is no such limit.

They have all the time as long as the kids do not have a class to go to, and usually there’s even time to take down the names of those who made decisions for the Lord, so that they could be followed up for discipleship!

In fact, outside the five-week evangelism campaign, our SMCI workers and missionaries go out catching and catching on a regular weekly basis – the Student Movement for Christ (SMCI) organization is a recognised chapter i.e. a registered society or club within that campus, and they have the freedom to go in and out as they pleased.

And usually on Sunday afternoons, after the church worship service, our SMCI missionaries extend the tracting and evangelism outside the campuses, to the folk in town. Our church in Singapore has a Street E Ministry too, where the team reaches people of all cultures and races in the streets of Orchard Road!

I remember the first time I saw the little purple flowers on the mountains in Tibet. They were soooo simply beautiful. And I thought, what a pity that no one but me may ever see these. And then I thought, maybe God makes beautiful things, not to make us happy, but for His own pleasure and because He just enjoys making and having beautiful creations.

This was about 4… Read More....

    Dear Family and Friends,

As always, time goes by so quick. The spring semester flew by and now I am in the process of moving to a new city. After the whirlwind of activities over the last few months, I finally have a few minutes to catch my breath before summer camp starts so I thought I’d take a moment to update you on how He is working… Read More....

School has begun! I started teaching on Monday of this week. I am teaching in the English department of my school and am very excited to be working with my students. I have loved all my students from year one to now but because these kids are English majors their English is a little better so we can discuss more in-depth topics and get to know each other a little… Read More....
