I tend to make silly mistakes when I travel alone, and had nearly missed my flight twice on two different mission trips! I sure hope other single travellers are a lot more alert than me!
The first time was due to the excuse of a ‘rather early flight’ at seven in the morning. I was flying alone to Phnom Penh on an MAS flight – the first leg was from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.
After checking in at Changi Airport at five am, I wandered around, had an early breakfast, wandered some more and then, about fifteen minutes before the flight, I trudged sleepily to the boarding gate. As I joined the queue to go through the x-ray thingy, I glanced around and felt something was wrong – eh, yes, it was the flight to KL. Yes, the boarding time was correct. But… yikes, it was an SIA flight, not MAS!

Check your flight!
I woke up in a big hurry, left the queue, and then searched frantically for the nearest TV screen to confirm where the correct boarding gate was. It was right at the other end of Changi Airport! I tried my version of ‘the mad dash’ and made it to the correct flight half-dead and panting.
Ha, who would have thought that there were two different flights, leaving at around the same time to the same city? After that, I have to remind myself not only to check the boarding time and destination but also the flight number and boarding gate as well.
The next instance of a near miss was again when I had to transit at Kuala Lumpur, and this time I was returning home after a mission trip to Sabah last year. The terminal was quite chaotic and I checked in too early. The gate wasn’t confirmed yet on my boarding pass.
Again I wandered around and I must have fallen asleep in a corner because the next thing I knew, I heard the repeated announcement for ‘final call for boarding’ for my flight! Yikes! This time, I was personally escorted to the plane like a VIP, and everybody else was already comfortably seated and maybe glaring at me.
Um… I think… I would prefer not to be a VIP again in such a situation.
The shock of everything is now starting to sink in and the dust is starting to settle some.
The ultrasound specialist, after much trying, was finally able to see some of our unborn baby’s face and mouth and confirmed the cleft lip which is on the right side. She also said that she saw a gap in the hard palate which is the front of the mouth. It is… Read More....
There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....
A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....

You are fortunate not to miss the flights. I once had the cabin door slammed shut in front of me just as I was dashing through the aerobridge. The pilot refused to open it for me, despite the fact that I was right at the door step and he could see me.
Thanks for sharing …
Very useful !
My dear, tsk, tsk, tsk…from a former flight attendant’s view point, I rest my case.
