    A unique missionary – called via a garbage-can!

This entry is Part 1 of 5 in the series God's Unique Call

Yesterday I had the opportunity of commissioning a team of workers to serve in a neighbouring predominantly Muslim country in Asia. The handful of workers had come from very different backgrounds and from several different countries. I’ve no doubt that they were all uniquely raised and called by God. However, one of them stood out from the rest – in the way that God called her to Himself and to His service. Let’s call this lady Miss G (for garbage-can!).

Miss G, who is a Filipina, worked for 6 years as a domestic helper in Singapore. During this time her employer forbad her to communicate with others. Across the fence from her house, another Filipina, who worshipped at my church, worked as a domestic helper. When she realized that she could not communicate with Miss G, she decided to leave a Gospel tract on the garbage-can outside Miss G’s employer’s house. When Miss G went to throw the garbage she noticed the tract and took it and read it – and trusted the Lord as her Saviour! She asked her employer for a chance to go to church but was forbidden.

Her neighbour continued to place a Bible-correspondence course from the Source of Light organization on the garbage-can. Miss G would take the course, study it, answer the questions and then place it back on the garbage-can. This continued for several months until Miss G “graduated” from that course. She then decided to resign from her job and go to Bible School. Her neighbour wrote the name of a Bible School in the Philippines and Miss G enrolled in that Bible School.

She had a “culture shock” in the Bible School because she had no Christian church background and contemplated quitting. But the Dean of Women encouraged her to stay on. She graduated from Bible School last year. I was informed that someone from my church had graduated but I had no recollection of her because she never had the chance to come to church!

When I met her for the first time, she told me that she wanted to serve in the mission field. I encouraged her to get experience as a teacher in a Christian school and to get a Teacher’s Certificate. She did both.

Today, Miss G is serving the Lord in His vineyard! I’ve no doubt that the God who uniquely called her will also uniquely use her!

What a privilege to serve this amazing God!

I remember the first time I saw the little purple flowers on the mountains in Tibet. They were soooo simply beautiful. And I thought, what a pity that no one but me may ever see these. And then I thought, maybe God makes beautiful things, not to make us happy, but for His own pleasure and because He just enjoys making and having beautiful creations.

This was about 4… Read More....

School has begun! I started teaching on Monday of this week. I am teaching in the English department of my school and am very excited to be working with my students. I have loved all my students from year one to now but because these kids are English majors their English is a little better so we can discuss more in-depth topics and get to know each other a little… Read More....
