Some years ago when we started our campus outreach in the Philippines a young man called Ven was saved. Today, this young man in his twenties serves as the Philippines National Director of Student Movement for Christ International (SMCI), directing almost a hundred full-time, part-time and volunteer campus workers. Shortly after he was saved his father was saved, then the rest of his family including numerous uncles and aunts. Today his dad serves as the pastor of a church and his sister serves as our full-time campus evangelist. This is another story of God’s amazing grace.
Ven was a messed up young man on campus. He had experimented with most of the vices that are available to young men. His long hair and general appearance fitted that of a rebel. One day a SMCI worker shared the Gospel with him on campus and he trusted the Lord. His life was dramatically and visibly changed. His family noticed the change and asked to see the SMC lady who shared the Gospel with him. When this lady heard that Ven’s father wanted to see her, she immediately thought that he was angry with her because Ven had converted from Romanism to Christianity. But to her surprise he wanted to hear from her what had changed his son. She shared the Gospel with him and he trusted the Lord. Soon the whole family was saved, including many other members of their extended family that lived in that same city.
Shortly after this I was asked to visit Ven’s father. I still remember that visit clearly though it took place many years ago. As we sat at the dinner table, I realized that this pig-farmer was no ordinary convert. Though he was a spiritual babe of only a few months, he asked me questions that were spiritually mature. After the meeting I told my co-workers that God would call this pig-farmer to be a pastor. Though it was obvious that he was growing spiritually, this dear man had to struggle with a past vice for several years before he finally got the victory. Today, he is pastor of a growing church in Tanjay City, Philippines.
Shortly after, his daughter joined as a full-time campus worker. It is obvious that God’s Hand is upon her growing campus ministry too and that she is destined for great things for God.
The Gospel is indeed the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16)!!
The shock of everything is now starting to sink in and the dust is starting to settle some.
The ultrasound specialist, after much trying, was finally able to see some of our unborn baby’s face and mouth and confirmed the cleft lip which is on the right side. She also said that she saw a gap in the hard palate which is the front of the mouth. It is… Read More....
There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....
A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
