Today, one of our most productive workers on the mission field is a couple that serves in China. They supervise a team of over 40 foreign missionaries in China and indirectly “direct” another larger team of local full-time and volunteer workers. In their past 6 over years in China they have seen the local unregistered church that they work with grow from about 200 Sunday worshippers to about 1000 today. This local church has not only grown numerically but also in spiritual depth and in evangelistic and missions fervour. God has seen fit to use this couple in a wonderful way. Their life-story is a reminder of God’s amazing grace.
The husband (who I’ll call Mr K) had received the Lord many years ago but had married this unsaved lady (who I’ll call, Mrs F – for Ferragamo!). Mr K had long since stop going to church. About 10 years ago, their marriage was on the rocks and they were contemplating divorce. A mutual friend brought them to our church. On that Sunday I preached about marriage. And the Holy Spirit worked that message in their hearts. They decided that they should continue coming to church. Shortly after, Mrs. F trusted the Lord. There was a marked visible change in their lives and the lives of their two daughters.
Though they were high-flyers in their respective careers, they volunteered to serve in whatever ministries that were available. I remember Mr K serving as a church driver. Shortly after attending church they attended a week-long Congress on China and felt called to serve in China. Though they were yet spiritual babes they took a step of faith and followed me on a survey trip to China. While there the Holy Spirit touched their hearts to give up their careers and to serve in China.
Needless to say, there were many naysayers who doubted their call and their readiness for the field. What could these young spiritual babes do? While admitting that they were spiritual babes, I realized that together they had rare marketing, organizational and administrative skills. These were skills that could be used to start a new work in China. They were not ready to teach or preach the Word but they could help others who had those gifts to get into China and serve in China. Since then God has indeed used them to serve Him with their gifts and abilities!
All type of workers are needed in God’s vineyard. Ask God to show you how you can be used!
You too can trade your fancy business shoes for sneakers and have those beautiful feet that bring the Gospel of peace to a lost and dying world!
The shock of everything is now starting to sink in and the dust is starting to settle some.
The ultrasound specialist, after much trying, was finally able to see some of our unborn baby’s face and mouth and confirmed the cleft lip which is on the right side. She also said that she saw a gap in the hard palate which is the front of the mouth. It is… Read More....
There was the old grandma who was being cared for by her daughter and son. One day as I was reading my Bible, the daughter asked me about it and I told her what I was reading. She was excited and told me that she had one too and was a part of God’s family. I knew there was something different about her. She took such gentle care of her… Read More....
A few months ago I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have any real China stories.” A ‘China’ story is the kind that can only happen to you in China (of course) but really sets your time here apart from anything else you’ve experienced in your life; it’s something that you think, “I’ve never experienced anything like this!” and somehow it changes you. Well, it finally happened. After two years… Read More....
